Join Michigan Alliance for Families for Teaching Self-Determination Skills with Stephanie Nicholls and Sandee Koski.
Self-determination skills start growing in childhood and continue throughout one’s life. Self-determination means making your own choices, learning to solve problems, and taking control and responsibility for your own life.
Self-determination is important for all people, but it is especially important, and often more difficult to learn, for young people with disabilities who have had limited power in shaping their lives. In this workshop we will:
• Explore what self-determination means and why it is important
• Identify ways to teach self-determination skills as IEP goals and at home/ in the community
• Introduce tools to build self-determination skills
If you need an accommodation to attend this event, please send your request to info@michiganallianceforfamilies.org two weeks prior to the event.
