I have exactly 2 things planned for Election Night 2020: a Zoom dance party with friends and a celebratory apple cider toast. I am making the conscious decision to choose celebratory practices over miring in fear and anxiety because then I would need to numb myself with boxes of wine.

I’m not judging you if your Election Night plan includes a box of Bota and a box of tissues — but I am here to let you know, there is a different (probably healthier) way to deal with your stress.

Move Your Body to Move Your Anxiety

Despite what our “walking head” world would have you believe, life is not meant to be lived from the neck up. We have a body too, but we barely recognize it. Somatic psychology studies the interconnectedness of the mind and the body. It says that the ways you move and hold your body impact your mental health state. And, conversely, your mental health state also influences how your body feels and chooses to move.

The quickest way to rebalance both of these is through movement.
