Cellular adaptation to pesticide-induced damage may hinder chemotherapy efficacy.

Patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) were more likely to have treatment failure with R-CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone) if they had been exposed to agricultural pesticides at work compared with DLBCL patients who had no pesticide exposure, a retrospective French cohort study found.

At a median follow-up of 33 months, patients who had been exposed to occupational pesticides had a significantly higher rate of treatment failure at 22.4% compared with 11.3% for non-exposed patients (P=0.03), Sylvain Lamure, MD, of Montpellier University Hospital, and colleagues reported.
